Could climate change make humans go extinct? | Live Science

Working with Group 2 is always a pleasure, every group member often helps once another and finishes their assigned job on time. When the topics were first introduced my first thought was to go with gender inequality, however gender inequality is such a broad topic with a great amount of different layers to go over that I would've never been able to put all into a project and that would've upset.Later on as a group decided to go with climate change which is equally as important and a topic that is often forgotten by the mainstream media. The professor allowed us to pick our topics so luckily we were given climate change to talk about as we wished. We divided our topic into three subtopics: Cause of climate change, impact of climate change, and lastly climate change solutions. Those writing in each subtopic needed at least 3 slides which resulted of a lot of useful information.

Climate change impacts | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Me and my partner had to speak about the different causes of climate change. We had a rough start as everyone panicked when WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook stopped working( 1st world problems😬) but lucky we were able to get in touch not too long afterwards. There was an agreement on what we were both talking about. I decided to speak about the human causes of climate change, whereas she spoke about all the natural aspects of it along side with how it all works scientifically. Some of the topics we mentioned were: overconsumption, food-waste, mass production, fossil fuels, deforestation, and agriculture. I was well aware of how bad climate change is but it was so shocking really researching and learning about how much humans are responsible for.The amount of food and material waste is shocking and honestly very disappointing. After learning with this great detail I am able to say that it has impacted me greatly. I have started to be a lot more mindful of how much meat I eat and of how much plastic I buy and use. Stella McCartney calls for overhaul of 'incredibly wasteful' fashion industry | Waste | The Guardian

Personally I have never been one to spend too much money on clothes or even participate in fast fashion trends but I know for a fact that my generation looooves to. I describe social media platforms like Instagram and tiktok as a plague our generation just can't escape. Kids are so easily influenced by trends they see online that they just look over all the terrible affects it has on our society. They buy new clothes every time something is trending and throw them away when it's not mainstream anymore. I am proud of my generation for being as progressive as it is but I am greatly disappointed when it comes to things like this.Although we have some things to work on I believe or at least I hope that we are able to overcome this and make change together.Everyone should be informed about things like this because once it is taught and learnt we begin being a lot more conscious about the world outside of social media platforms.

The rest of my group also did an amazing job providing information about how bad this can affect us all in general and of ways we can help put an end to this problem.Humans are very self distractive and by the looks of it we seem to not care about how this can affect us.However, that does not mean that nature and wild life have to come down with us. With all the research we've done we found out that climate change has devastating effects on wildlife as well changing many species migratory patterns because animals have started move to cooler climates pushing disease carrying animals into new places as well as disrupting food chains.

Land-based animals of all kind are moving polewards by an average of 17 km per decade and marine animals by about 72 km per decade this means that the animals are moving more each year closer towards the poles because climate change is forcing them out of their natural areas. An example of this is how mosquitos transmitters of malaria are moving to areas where people are more prone to getting sick because those areas are none native to malaria carrying mosquitos. This global rearrangement of animals can also lead to a mass extinction of species because of the new dangers those species can encounter in a habitat that they are nonnative to.

It is crazy to me how this can all be stopped if we all played our role into helping ourselves, our environment and the future ahead of us. By reducing how much meat we eat, by putting a stop to the waste of food and materials a great difference can be accomplished and I believe it is entirely possible if we start soon.  Overall I am proud of not only my group but all the other groups for putting so much time and effort into speaking about subjects that are so crucial to the improvement of our society and future. Groups one and three also had amazing presentations that taught me things I wasn't even aware about. Im very appreciative towards group three who did an amazing job with their presentation on gender inequality who I was a little jealous of for turning such a complicated subject into something that helpful and informative, It was very inclusive and they spoke about the lgbtq community and topics such as pronouns and gender identification that are luckily starting to be normalized in our society.

I am proud of you guys!!!!
